Hand-written letters really have an impact, specially if it comes from your loved ones. Just like Leland Shoemake’s last letter for his parents.
Leland is from Williamson, Georgia. He suffered from Balamuthia Mandrillaris (brain eating amoeba) and passed away on the 25th of September.
Leland's father, Tim, found the note placed in the living room where Leland was fond of doing his drawings. As Tim was reading the letter, he started to shed tears and immediately ran to his wife to show to her what he found.
“Still with you. Thank You Mom and Dad. Love You Mom and Dad.”
"To say I lost it was an understatement. We cried for the longest time,” Amber, Leland's mom, said.
On Facebook, Leland’s mother said that he is smart and a curious boy.
“He knew his abc’s, numbers, colors, shapes and 20 sight words by the time he was a year old. He was our little nerd and we loved that about him. He loved school and loved to learn. He loved the history channel, the weather channel, documentaries and anything about history,” she wrote on her social media account.
“He had a hunger for learning,” she added.
Leland was also sociable. He talked to everyone and was friendly.
Gone too soon, that’s what people can say about Leland. One can only hope that his note can give his parents comfort in this difficult time.
