Alaska is a state of extremes. Although you probably only think of snow and husky dogs there is a lot more to it than that. But…that is a good place to start. And it’s not just all forests and fields either. The state has more coastline than the rest of the US combined. The fact that Alaska is roughly 3 times the size of Texas certainly helps. The state is also the farthest north, farthest west, and farthest east in the US. This is because some of the Aleutian islands actually cross the international dateline, which means they are farther west than the eastern most tip of Russia. And therefore they are also the easternmost point of the US! Another cool fact – in some places you can actually see Russia from Alaska (specifically the Diomede islands).
