Dogs are truly a man’s best friend but sometimes they become family. And this dog has proven his loyalty to his master.
15-year-old black Labrador mix named Charlie Bear, despite suffering from seizures from brain cancer, has managed to live long enough to see his master’s wedding.
Kelly O’Connell, the bride, met Charlie when he was only 12 weeks old. Charlie was deserted at a grocery cart and he got adopted by Kelly, a veterinary student when she was still 19-years-old.
“I wasn’t looking for a dog. I was 19, still living with my parents and going to college. It was the worst in time in my life to even attempt to get a dog,” Kelly mentioned in an interview with BuzzFeed News.
“He came in, and I was like, ‘Yup. Im taking this puppy home.’” She added.
They became best friends. When Kelly moved in with James Garvin, a fellow veterinarian with two sons, Charlie Bear would become part of the bunch.
Last September 1, 2016, when Kelly and James planned for their wedding, Charlie Bear unfortunately got sick. His seizures started happening in April and diagnosed with brain tumor. The prognosis was very bad.
However, the dog must had a sense of what was happening because despite the breakdowns that kept on happening before the wedding, Charlie was seizure-free during the main event.
During the Wedding, Charlie was strong enough to walk Kelly down the aisle.
But he must have used up all his energy so he could not walk after the ceremony. Maid of honor, Katie Lloyd who is also Kelly’s Sister, had to carry him.
The wedding was a touching event, everyone was in tears, as Katie carried the 80-pound dog away.
Sadly, a week later, Charlie was put to sleep. Charlie passed away surrounded by the family.
