MDS was diagnosed with lung cancer last 2014. During her campaign for the presidency, she has minimal public disappearances and she takes long breaks, which are signs of being physically weak.

Last May 24, the Senator wrote to Senate President Franklin Drilon to let them know that she will be on medical leave until her final term in the Senate on June 30. She also said that the side effect of her anti-Cancer medicine is she developed anorexia which gives her the inability to eat that causes her body to be weak. She’s been battling cancer for 2 years.

Netizens often dub her as the “President we never had.” People also called her this after the elections.

Senator Miriam ran for Presidency last 1992 but lost. A quote back then says, “Miriam won in the elections, but lost in the counting,” became of allegations of cheating in the opposing camp.

She tried running again last 1998 but eventually lost again due to the “heavy black propaganda against her which eventually proven false.”

This year, 2016, she ran again despite of her battle with cancer but she lost again because people felt that rest is what she needs because of the condition of her health.

In her sleep, she bids farewell.
