There have been so many inspiring stories of indigent students rising to the top in hopes of a better future for their families; each story is marvelous and every bit inspiring.
Kimjames Sarapanan Manalo, a student of COR Jesu College of Digos (CJC) made history as the very first student of the school to ever make it to the top 10 of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Board Licensure Examination as he came in second. Aside from that, what made Manalo's story more inspiring is his trek towards the success.
Being a son of a puto vendor, Manalo's journey was not easy. But amidst all that, he made it and graduated as Magna Cum Laude in 2015 and later on took a one-year review school.
Manalo had potential and Edgel Earl Abear, Manalo's professor saw that as he advised Manalo to take review school for a year. "Silent, studious and very humble" were the words used by Abear to describe his student.
"Hilumon kayo, mag sige rag study sa kwarto," [Quiet and would always study in the room] says Manalo's parents when asked about the youngest among their six children.
Manalo had always been an achiever. He graduated as salutatorian in Ruparan Elementary School in 2007 and in Ruparan National High School in 2011 before becoming a Benedictine scholar of CJC.
Unlike others, he did not have the time and money for leisure. He only went to the mall to sit and read books or review for school. But Manalo proves to be an inspiration to many as he overcame all these and became a topnotcher.
"My family is my inspiration. I dream of having my own firm," Manalo said.
Before him, the highest top ranking examinee from the school was Corjesian Neilz Delica who placed 18th during the CPA exam in 2005.
