Exclusive - Italy Had The Most Powerful Earthquake in 36 Years And It Flattened a Basilica!

The powerful earthquake that rocked the country in 36 years hit the mountainous center last Sunday, causing panic among residents and flattening a world-famous, 600-year-old basilica.

Fortunately, there were no reports of human casualties by the 6.6 magnitude quake, Yahoo reports.

“As far as people are concerned, the situation is positive, but many buildings are in a critical state in historic centers, and there are problems with electricity and water supplies,” Fabrizio Curcio, head of Italy's civil protection agency, said to the press.

The quake struck at 7:40 a.m. (0640 GMT) about the small mountain town of Norcia and it was even felt 200 miles away to Rome and Venice.

It was the biggest earthquake danger Italy has faced since the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the country back in 1980, causing 3,000 people dead.
