No it's not. The source of this story even admitted that they have no evidence on this claim.
Apparently, someone on Facebook claiming to have joined the "Black Friday" protest yesterday at Luneta posted that he was paid Php 500 to join the protest against the late president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
In his comment, he said that the agreement between the organizers and himself and his peers was to rally until 6 PM in exchange for Php 500. He also complained that the organizers did not even give them the food that was originally part of their "agreement." His name was concealed in a post by notorious fake news site Crabbler.
Without any actual evidence to support the claim, the post should not be taken seriously. Neither Crabbler nor Taho News have any proof to support the validity of this anonymous Facebook post.
They even admitted to their deception by saying:
“Apparently, we at Taho News cannot confirm if then said Facebook user is really a legitimate anti-Marcos protester., and we have no way to prove if his claim his [sic] real or not.”
As news readers and members of society, we must be ever-vigilant when it comes to rooting out lies.
Here are the only verifiable news items about the Anti-Marcos burial rally last Friday:
- Organizers said that an estimated 15,000 protesters gathered at Luneta at 6PM. The numbers increased to 20,000 protesters at 9 PM.
- Duterte devotees were also present in the rally, supporting the president's decision on the controversial burial of the dictator.
- Students from UP, Ateneo, La Salle, UST, Adamson, PUP and others were also present to protest against the Supreme Court’s decision.
- Militant groups like Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and personalities like Mae Paner (aka Juana Change), the Tanada family, actress Pinky Amador, and Serge Osmena, Jr. were also present in the protest.
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan Secretary General Renato Reyes claimed that he was harassed by supporters of Marcos and Duterte but said the protest went peacefully overall, with police giving them maximum tolerance.
Despite it literally raining on their parade, Reyes said that he was happy with the turnout of the protest.
