Exclusive - The Last Living Sibling Of Former President Ferdinand Marcos Speaks Up!

Following the Supreme Court's ruling regarding the controversial issue of late President and Dictator Ferdinand Marcos' burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, the last living sibling of Marcos spoke up expressing her relief and gratitude over the ruling.

Fortuna Marcos-Barba, Ferdinand’s youngest sibling expressed joy that her brother will be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.

"Well, I would say you [Ferdinand] deserve it, I am glad that they are finally making up their their minds to give what is supposed to be given to you," she said. "Rest in peace, my brother. I am sure you must be."

The 85-year-old woman shared that her brother probably must have been happy, now that a wish in his last will and testament has finally been fulfilled.

In the former President and Dictator’s will, he wrote that he hoped to be "buried according to the rites established by law and with dignity suitable to my position and other personal circumstances."

Fortuna is the youngest among siblings while Ferdinand was the eldest, followed by Dr. Pacifico Marcos and Elizabeth Marcos-Keon, a former Ilocos Norte governor.

"They were very nice to me because I was the youngest. Intindihin mo iyung maliit at bulilit na iyan, parang ganun," she explained.

Also, in an interview, Fortuna expressed that she believes no apology is needed from the Marcos family explaining that there is no proof to link her brother with the past atrocities that have transpired during the martial law. Her ignorance regarding the various crimes against humanity perpetrated under her brother’s regime is astounding.

"[Apologize] for what? Yun ang aking question, for what? They talk about atrocities. How come they conclude already that he was the one responsible for these atrocities when they cannot even prove it?" she asked.

 Her lack of remorse was apparent, something that runs in their family.

"They have to prove that talagang he was the one responsible sa karahasan. Hindi naman ganon, hindi ganon ang pagkakaalam ko. Most of it I guess must be because of the military. Siyempre iba-iba rin ang pag-iisip ng tao."

However despite the statement, Fortuna still hoped that the country and the people would unite. 

"We should unite, so that we have a better Philippines, so we have better land for the Filipinos."

This sentiment came despite her blatant disregard for the plight of the Filipino people.
