Exclusive - Police Arrest Suspect Behind The IED Found Near The US Embassy

On Wednesday, Police arrested the suspect behind the improvised explosive device planted near the United States Embassy.

The suspected was identified as 34-year-old Rayson Kilala aka Rashid Kilala. Kilala was arrested by operatives of the Manila Police District and Bulacan Provincial Police at 9:30 a.m in Bulakan, Bulacan. The suspect was a resident of Barangay Bagumbayan

"Siya mismo ang driver. Siya ang may dala [ng IED]. Hindi natin alam kung terorista siya na nag-rent ng taxi o taxi driver siya na nilapitan ng terorista na pakideliver ito doon, pakilagay mo sa trash bin," PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa stated in a press conference on Tuesday.

Chief Dela Rosa was referring to the discovery of the IED in a trash bin located around 100 meters away from the US Embassy. The area was along the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard. Dela Rosa is not ruling out the possibly of Kilala’s innocence.

"Baka hindi niya alam na IED yung nakalagay dun, iwan lang niya, babayaran kita ng malaki. Kung ako yung taxi driver papayag ako, lalo kung hindi ko alam na IED yun," he added.

According to Manila Police District chief Senior Superintendent Joel Coronel the IED was similar to the explosive used in the night market bombing in Davao City last September. The device was described as having an 81-mm mortar, a 9-volt battery, switch device, a cellular phone, and a blasting cap. Dela Rosa stated that the Maute Group might be responsible for these bomb-related incidents.
