Exclusive - Vic Sotto Responds To Mercedes Cabral Cursing At Mother Lily: 'Hindi na tama iyun.'

Vic Sotto, one of the most popular Filipino celebrities, is used to having his films included in the Metro Manila Film Festival.

But this year, things are markedly different.

The MMFF committee has decided change their criteria for entry, prioritizing quality over popularity. This led to a gamut of independent films and a distinct lack of mainstream movies in this year’s MMFF.

In a press conference of bloggers and news sites last November 25, Vic Sotto gave his opinion on the matter.

"Ako, personally, wala akong iniisip na iba sila, iba kami. I still go back to my statement na kanya-kanyang taste lang iyan, kanya-kanyang paniniwala, kanya-kanyang pananaw,” Vic said.

Vic Sotto’s “Enteng Kabisote 10 and Abangers” wasn’t the only one left out in the cold, as two other mainstream films were also excluded from the official entries.

Mano Po 7: Chinoy of Regal Films and The Super Parental Guardians starring Vice Ganda and Coco Martin of Star Cinema also failed to pass the screening process.

Regal Films Queen Lily Monteverde A.K.A. ‘Mother Lily’ said she was deeply saddened by the MMFF’s ruling to not count Mano Po 7 as an official entry to the annual showcase of excellent films.

"There is a time for the indie movies. But not during the Christmas season. Christmas is for the family,” Mother Lily said.

Mother Lily’s statement deriding independent movies inevitably caught the ire of some indie film stars. This raised many objections from the independent film scene. One particular comment caught the attention of the media.

Mercedes Cabral called her a “F*cking idiot” for her comment.

Springing to Mother Liliy’s defense was Vic Sotto, who said that Mother Lily or anyone, for that matter, shouldn’t be talked to like that, and that criticism entails that you explain why you say such things.

"Kung may magmumura kay Mother, hindi naman tama yun. I go back to respect.  Kahit anong sabihin no'n, respetuhin mo. You may disagree with her opinion, pero sabihin mo bakit ka nagdi-disagree, hindi yung magmumura ka."

“Totoo naman ang sinasabi ni Mother." He added.
