Curious of what is actually down there beneath the ground we live in, Soviet scientists conducted a study in 1970’s where they dug deep into the Earth’s crust, producing what was eventually called as the Kola Superdeep Borehole.
The Kola Superdeep Borehole is located at Kola Peninsula in Russia. This superhole is more than 7.5miles deep. This is deeper than the deepest point of the ocean which is only 6.8 miles.
What did they found at the bottom of the hole? They discovered microscopic fossils of single-celled organisms at 4.3 miles. Surprisingly, scientists also found water.
Scientists also found out that the distance from the bottom of the superhole to the center of the Earth is 4000 miles. This means 7.5 miles of digging is not even a scratch on the surface of the earth.
