Exclusive - Philippine Air Force Formally Accepts Two Brand New FA-50 Aircraft Fighters.

Two brand new FA-50 "Fighting Eagle" fighter jets were formally accepted by the Philippine Air Force on December 8, 2016. The FA-50 aircraft is a variant of the T-50 Golden Eagle aircraft developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and Lockheed Martin.

Back in June, President Rodrigo Duterte questioned the Philippine Air Force's decision to purchase these fighters during a speech at SMX Lanang, Davao City.

"We only have what, two FA-50s? Bakit mo binili yan?" Duterte remarked

"Sayang ang pera doon. You cannot use them for anti-insurgency, which is really the problem at the moment. You can only use those for ceremonial fly-by.”

The president further added that he believes the purpose of these fighters was to 'match the airpower' of China. This comes during the controversial territorial disputes between China and the Philippines over the Scarborough Shoal.

Pres. Duterte says he will not “go to war over Scarborough Shoal.”

The Philippine Air Force will receive 12 supersonic fighters by 2017.
