President Rodrigo Duterte declared that he allocated P1-billion worth of medicine funds for Filipinos who are less fortunate.
He said on Tuesday that the money will serve those in need of immediate medical assistance or maintenance.
“I released one billion to those people holding mga reseta ngayon, na
walang mabibili,” Duterte said at the awarding ceremony of the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines Golf Tournament held at the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club in Quezon City.
Duterte aims to release the same amount every month for hospitalization and medicine maintenance.
“Marami dito sa ating mga kababayan nagkasakit na may reseta ang doctor and they cannot buy it. So for this month and hopefully every month, I will release one billion for those who cannot afford hospitalization or may mga maintenance” he said.
He also mentioned that he asked the Department of Budget and Management to look for sponsors to fund the needs of sick Filipinos who are too poor to buy prescriptions.
PDPLaban, his political party, conducted a feeding program in support of Duterte's campaign against poverty.
