Exclusive - Super Mario Run Outruns Pokemon Go In First Day Release Downloads!

Super Mario Run was downloaded a staggering 2.85 million times on the first day of its release, easily outrunning Pokemon Go’s figures of  900,000. Apptopia, an analytics firm, released the data.

However, it is important to note that Super Mario Run was released in 150 countries on its first day, while Pokemon Go was released in only 3 before fan backlash forced Niantic to release it worldwide.

According to The Verge, “Pokemon Go currently holds the most first-week downloads in App Store history.” It is available in both iOS and android devices.

Super Mario Run is only currently available for iOS, but is expected to be released for Android devices by 2017.

Both games can be downloaded for free, however, Super Mario Run requires a payment of $9.99 to unlock the full game.

Super Mario Run was heavily promoted by Nintendo, even being featured on the popular talk show The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Apptopia attributes this heavy marketing campaign to the popularity of the game, believing it contributed largely to first-day release sales.

Nintendo hopes to use the app’s popularity as a way to introduce casual gamers to Mario, their most popular video game character, and use that as a way to gain more potential customers for their upcoming console – The Nintendo Switch.

According to The Verge, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto said:
“We’ll then have to look at what it is these new fans want from a Mario game, and we’ll continue to see Mario evolve in that way.”
