Exclusive - 'The Super Parental Guardians' Dominated the Box-Office! Did They Top AlDub’s 'My Bebe Love'?

Vice Ganda has added another box-office hit under his belt.

His newest comedy offering to the masses, "The Super Parental Guardian," earned Php 68 million during its premiere night on Wednesday, becoming the most successful debut of any Star Cinema movie this year.

The movie is about a tough-talking gang leader who is forced to take care of his orphaned nephews with his sister-in-law’s loud, gay friend.

"The Super Parental Guardians" also topped "A Second Chance," which earned in P43.3 million on its opening day November last year.

It even beat the Php 60.5 million first day sales of 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival entry "My Bebe Love," starring the AlDub love team (Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards) and Vic Sotto.

There are still no reports if "The Super Parental Guardians" was able to topple the current record held by "Beauty and the Bestie", which is the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time.

There is no record of "Beauty and the Bestie's" box office sales because part of the MMFF’s rule is to not disclose the figures.

Directed by Joyce Bernal, "The Super Parental Guardians" is also the debut film of child actors Simon "Onyok" Pineda and Awra Briguela, who both worked with Coco Martin in "Ang Probinsyano."

For the first time since Vice’s movies debuted at the MMFF, he was snubbed by the selection committee for this year's film fest.

Committee Head Nicanor Tiongson of the University of the Philippines Film Institute said that their panel picked the entries based on "quality" instead of potential ticket sales. He also said that the films should not "dumb down" the audience.

Vice Ganda responded that he wasn't offended by the decision, and hoped that fans would support his film as well as the MMFF entries.
