For most celebrities, showbiz is a stepping stone for politics. Their fame results in a lot of fans and supporters that can be turned into voters. 

Many veteran and rookie Filipino artists joined the 2016 elections. Like all aspiring politicians, they also submitted their certificates of candidacy (COC) to the Commission on Elections (Comelec). 

Among the political aspirants were: 

Roderick Paulate: Re-election Councilor, 2nd district Quezon City

Jhong Hilario: Councilor, Makati

Lance Reymundo: Councilor, San Juan

Ericka Villongco: Councilor, San Juan

Vandolph Quizon: Councilor, Paranaque

Jomari Ylana: Councilor, Paranaque 1st district

Ronnie Rickets: Representative, Muntinlupa

Alex Castro: Provincial Board member, Bulacan

Andrea del Rosario: Vice Mayor, Calatagan, Batangas

ER Ejercito: Governor, Laguna

Imelda Papin: Congresswoman, Camarines Sur

Lani Mercado: Mayor, Bacoor, Cavite

Angelica Jones: Governor, Laguna

Rico J. Puno: Councilor, Makati CIty

Daniel Fernando: Re-election Vice Governor, Bulacan

Hubert Webb: Councilor, Paranaque

Richard Gomez: Mayor, Ormoc City

Isko Moreno: Senator

Some who were up for re-election aimed higher – such as Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, who ran for Congress.

The question is: do they really deserve the position they can so easily attain through fame? 

We see these faces in our TV screens while they endorse endless brands. We witness their versatile acting and hosting skills. We idolize their talents. Are those skills good enough criteria to hand them our trust and compliance?

Only a few months have passed since the most recent elections and for now we can all just hope we voted the right people.
