Parents nowadays aim for the most unique names they can give their children. Others opt to tweak the spelling of common names to somehow give it a twist, while others go for farfetched ones instead. But surely, this man who hails from Malang regency, East Java, celebrates his name every year, literally, after being named 'Slamet Hari Natal' which translates into 'Merry Christmas’.
“Yes, that’s my name,” he answered.
He even showed his identification card to prove it, which is made even more appropriate considering he was born on December 25, 1962.
It’s ironic that he and his parents are Muslims.
According to him, when he was born in the hut in Tumpang Kalang, the midwife, Akas Kiyo was a Christian and suggested the name "Selamat Hari Natal". His parents, not being too conscious of names, accepted the suggestion but changed it to Slamet which translates into 'safe' in Javanese.
“They said they didn’t want to think hard for the name, and they had that name ready, so they accepted the suggestion,” Slamet shared
When asked if he has ever received any mocking remarks from his Muslim neighbors, he answered: "No, never. We practice tolerance here,” he said.
