Exclusive - BREAKING! Senator Cayetano Dares Senator Trillanes: 'Let's Resign Together!'

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Duterte's running mate during the recent presidential elections, posed a challenge to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, a known vocal critic of President Duterte

He proposed, "Let's resign together!"

The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that this statement was made following Trillanes' allegation that Cayetano was leading an alleged ouster plot against Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III. Cayetano claimed that the allegation was just Trillanes' "figment of imagination.”

"Kung tingin ni Senator Trillanes ako ang problema, di sabay kaming mag resign kahit bukas. Kasi ako baligtad ang tingin ko, tingin ko siya ang problema sa Senado e," Cayetano said in a press conference.

Trillanes rebutted, saying in a text message that "Sya na muna kasi sya yung nangako na magre-resign kung hindi maso-solve yung crime, corruption and illegal drugs within three to six months."

Cayetano said that he once offered to resign from the Senate during the height of the presidential elections, claiming that he might do it in the middle of the year if Duterte would ask him to help his administration.

In addition, he claimed that the Senate presidency was also being offered to him before "in a silver platter" but that he refused, saying that he did not want the Liberal Party senators to be part of the majority bloc, including Senator Leila de Lima who was leading the Senate committee on justice.

"So sabi ko kay Senator Koko, pare kung gusto mo pipirma ako, magre-resign ako ng Senate tutal tutulong ako sa Pangulo at pagdating ng middle ng 2017 kukunin ako ng ating Pangulo para tumulong sa kanya,” Cayetano said.

According to Cayetano, it would be useless to claim the Senate presidency from Pimentel if he would join the Duterte administration after five or six months. "It's useless, sisirain ko lang ang pangalan ko kasi wala akong magagawa within five months. I wanted it when I thought I had 12 months."

Instead, Cayetano stated that Trillanes should just do something "very productive" for the administration instead of throwing around allegations.
