Exclusive - PNP Maintains Tight Security On Nazarene Procession, Assures Devotees of Zero Bomb Scares


With hundreds of thousands of devotees that flocked the Black Nazarene procession today, the Philippine National Police assured that security will be tight.

According to reports from the National Police, there had been no direct threat against the procession despite the earlier bomb scare.

"So far so good yung ating assessment, ongoing pa kasi yan and we hope that this activity will end peacefully at wala sanang untoward incident na mangyari," says PNP Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa through a phone interview with ANC.

However despite the absence of threats confirmed, the police chief assures continuous "very tight" security. 

Although instead of calling for back up through increase of security personnel from regions 3 and 4, Dela Rosa said they opted for stricter checkpoints instead to prevent possible entry of threats to the city.

He also revealed that contrary to the previous signal jammers used, he went for turning off cellphone signals today to maintain police communication through radio signal.

An estimation of 500,000 people is expected by the Manila Police District today.
