Every parent struggles to send their child to school. But what is worse is being unavailable for your children and leaving them to fend for themselves. It would surely be a challenge for the children too.
Such is the case of Facebook user Shyla Mie Brillantes Blasico's student. According to ABS-CBN News, she has a student who brought his baby brother in school because no one else could take care of him. She mentioned that the student's mother has passed away last 2016 after succumbing to complications of ectopic pregnancy.
Their father, meanwhile, is busy earning money for them so Shyla and her fellow teachers allow the children to eat at school during lunch time, saving them time and effort it takes to go to their house to eat. The teacher appealed to the netizens, saying "Hopefully may mga mabubuting puso dyan na tutulong..."
The photo of her student with his baby brother had gone viral and in the caption, Shyla claimed that "Dahil walang mag-aalaga sa kapatid niya dinadala niya na lang ito sa klase para di maka absent." The boy is a student of J. Blanco Elementary School in South Cotabato.
Her student is nine-year-old Mateo Baño, who is currently in Grade 3. According to Shyla, Mateo has two siblings, who are both boys. The other is in fifth grade and he and Mateo always take turns taking care of their two-year-old baby brother.
"Hindi naman makulit ang bata, nakaupo lang. Kung matutulog may divan kami, doon pinahiga ang bata. Lahat po sila pinapakain namin. May feeding program kasi every lunch sponsored by DepEd," Shyla said.
Mateo's father works in Surala as a carpenter, leaving the boys alone and with no one to supervise them. Shyla added that there were times when the children would be entrusted to their neighbors. Their relatives would also drop by to visit them in their house, checking up on how they are doing. "May tumutulong din naman," she said.
Ever since she have posted the photo online, many people have been offering their help and giving her words of encouragement, but Shyla said that the family needs food more than anything else. "Wala daw sila bigas. Gusto namin food, damit at basic school needs."
According to Shyla, she and the principal are already thinking of ways on how to possibly help the children about their situation.
