Exclusive - CHECK THIS OUT: Dubai Will Offer Self-Flying Taxi Drones by July This Year!

Dubai is set to launch a breakthrough means of transportation by July this year according to Mr. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the city’s Road and Transportation Agency.

There is a plan to introduce self-flying taxis to Dubai’s public transportation system. Tayer announced this plan at the World Government Summit.

They showed a model made in China that consists of four legs and eight propellers with two propellers attached to each leg. Each drone can carry a passenger weighing up to 100 kilograms or 220 pounds.

A single battery charge can fly these self-flying taxis within 50 kilometers or 31 miles and reach maximum speeds of about 160 kilometers per hour.

To test the durability and how the drone works, a businessman rode the craft and taped it. He also showed the touchscreen feature of the drone wherein you could just type your drop-off point.

This brand new addition to Dubai's transport system will, again, put the city in the forefront of the future. Along with their driveless railway system, these self-flying taxi can be a part of their resolution to traffic problems.

Dubai's ruler, Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum revealed that their goal by 2030 is to get 25% of Dubai's vehicles to operate without drivers.

There will also be a vacuum-sealed tube to be constructed in Dubai later this 2017 with the company Hyperloop One. The tube is designed to connect Dubai to their neighbor Abu Dhabi. With these systems in place, a two-hour trip is expected to be cut to only 12 minutes.

Despite the innovation, people still believe that there is a downfall to these plans. Many will be left jobless as soon as the advanced "driverless" vehicles are launched. Elon Musk estimated the total job loss to 12-15%.

“We need to find new roles for those people as increased manufacturing of autonomous cars will be very disruptive and very quick."

Yes we can't deny that self-flying drones are exciting but people hope that they reconsider its effects to those who have families to feed at the end of the day.
