It may sound off and eerie for most people, but for couple Charlotte and Attila Szakacs, spending 16 days with their dead baby is the best way to cope with their unfortunate loss.
Charlotte, 21, and Attila, 28, had a hard time conceiving a baby ever since they got married in 2015. After few tries, it was a great present for Charlotte as she found out that she was pregnant the day before she turned 21 on April 29.
Everything was going fine with Charlotte's pregnancy. They were eager to welcome their baby girl Evlyn.
But it looked like it was not going to be an easy journey for them as they found out their baby had a debilitating chromosome abnormality after her 20-week scan.
Every two weeks, Charlotte needed scans so that she could know how her baby girl could still be saved. They found out that Evlyn should be delivered through a Caesarean as the blood flow to her placenta started to fail.

Evlyn was welcomed to the world but not so much with open arms. She weighed merely 5lbs and worse, she had an underdeveloped brain with narrow airways in her lungs and nose. Because of this, she could not breathe on her own and performing a heart surgery could not be performed as it would be too risky.
Maybe the world was not really for Evlyn as the baby girl joined the Creator after battling with her condition for four weeks.
Heartbroken by the death of their first baby, Charlotte and Attila stayed at the hospice for 12 days to be with their baby girl. Instead of having a funeral soon as possible, Evlyn was kept in a refrigerated cuddle clot and her parents took her home for four days.
“So many people have never heard of parents being able to spend that time with their babies and other mums reached out to me saying they think it would have helped so I really want to raise awareness," Charlotte said.

“I think having the time with her made such a difference. Being able to do so many of the things you imagine like taking her out in her pram, it really helped emotionally. I was really nervous about bringing her home because I didn’t know if it would feel right but it was so nice to have her there. And it wasn’t just for us but for Evlyn so she got to come home," she added.
Dr. Clea Harmer, chief executive at stillbirth and neonatal death charity Sands, encouraged parents with dead babies to contact them in order to help them.
“We were very sorry to hear about the death of baby Evlyn and send our condolences to her parents. A cold cot allowed Evlyn’s parents to spend extra time with their daughter after she had died, and some parents tell us that spending time with their babies at home or in hospital can help them with the grieving process. I would urge anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby to contact us,” she said.
