BongBong Marcos is rumored to be the next cabinet appointee of the present administration for this year. Speculations that the former senator may make a comeback as the next head of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) were reportedly sparked by a report from the website, Politiko.
Popular trending news source, Definitely Filipino, jumped on the Politiko report and came out with an article on the subject on February 14, 2017. They stated that if Marcos does indeed get the job as the head of the DILG, then that means he will have to replace Ismael Sueno who was appointed by President Duterte back in June.
However, citizens should keep in mind that Malacañang has not confirmed the rumored appointment of Marcos as DILG secretary. According to Sun Star Philippines, Malacañang spokesperson Ernesto Abella said the following about the so-called "news":
“As far as I’m concerned, I have not received anything [about the supposed appointment of Marcos as DILG head]”
People have been looking out for what President Duterte might have in store for Bongbong Marcos ever since the latter failed to win the vice presidency. Duterte was very vocal about his respect for Bongbong and his father, the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, while he was still campaigning for the presidency. Imee Marcos, Bongbong's sister, was also reportedly one of Duterte's most valuable financial backers during his presidential campaign.
Following the reports mentioned above, The Philippine Star came out with an article stating that Marcos will have to be forced to forget about the electoral protest he filed against Leni Robredo if he ever accepts the rumored appointment.
