General Santos City is back in the spotlight, but this time it wasn't because of Manny Pacquiao but because of this rare giant Oarfish that the fishermen were able to find.
According to them, the fish was found in the shore just this morning, February 4, 2017. It is also known as the 'ribbon fish' because they are actually slim and long. They have short heads and have a long dorsal fin covering their whole back. They usually grow up to 5-8 ft long but in rare chances, some of them grow over 20 ft. They are rarely seen in the surface as they live more than 3,000 feet deep in the ocean.
Instead of celebrating, the citizens were terrified about catching the fish. According to them, this can only mean that something is wrong within the great depths of the water. Their claims aren't baseless. A scientist in Japan, connected the fish sighting into earthquakes saying “Deep-sea fish living near the sea bottom are more sensitive to the movements of active faults than those near the surface of the sea.”
