In this day and age, technology has become a huge part of our day-to-day lives. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are three of the most visited and used platforms online and users gets lost in their own little worlds with their smartphones.
So much so that the staff of a day care in Houston, Texas noticed that when parents fetch their kids, they are more engrossed with their mobile phones than their own children. It was a trend, as observed by the staff.
What they saw every day completely made them fed up so the staff decided to do something about it. They put up a notice that got the parents' attention.
One mom took a picture of the note and shared it on Facebook. Now, the message is spreading like wildfire on Facebook.
Juliana Farris Mazurkewicz saw the sign and initially got stunned but she eventually compromised. She thought it would be a good reminder to post and she wasn't wrong. As of this writing, it has been shared more than 1.3 million times.
The picture contains the words:
"You are picking up your child!
GET OFF YOUR PHONE!!!!
Your child is happy to see you! Are you not happy to see your child??
We have seen children trying to hand their parents their work they completed and the parent is on the phone. We have heard a child say, 'Mommy, mommy, mommy…' and the parent is paying more attention to their phone than their own child.
It is appalling.
Get off your phone!!"
Millions have viewed this simple yet powerful sign at the day care. It is now serving as a wake up call to all parents who are too occupied by their smartphones to provide more quality time with their children.
