This viral video posted on February 23 featuring a group of people being swept away by a flash flood has got netizens talking.
The video starts with a group of people hurrying to cross a rocky river.
Suddenly, a flash flood appeared out of nowhere, trapping the group in a powerful current within a matter of seconds.
5 of them got stuck in the middle of the tide. They rushed towards each other and tried to hold on for support. Others tried reaching out to them and tried helping them. However, the current got too strong, and after some time, the five of them got swept underwater!
The video was filmed at the infamous Patalpani waterfalls in Madhya Pradesh, India in the year 2011.
According to reports, the group of people seen crossing the river were tourists. Locals tried to warn them but they didn't heed their warnings. 2 of them managed to miraculously survive while 2 of them remain missing. 1 was found dead and her body was retrieved after the rescue operations.
Daily Bhaskar, detailed the reports and said:
"Nanuram (25) of Badnawar and Anishq (18) of Harda were somehow saved by the people. But the body of Chavi (22), daughter of Purshottam Dhoot and a resident of Aggrawal Nagar was fished out by fire tenders of Mhow and Indore. The body of Chandrashekhar Rathi (55) and Mudita Rathi (22), both residents of Harda were still missing. Both Mudita and Chavi were pursuing MBA at a college in Indore. Bherulal Chowdhary, an eyewitness to the incident, said more than 50 persons were sitting near the waterfall when the water suddenly gushed into the stream, forcing them to scamper towards safety. Heavy rains were reported in the catchment area of the upstream, thus flash flooding occurred before authorities had time to inform the tourists. The villagers warned the people sitting in the risky areas and asked them to move away from water."
Despite the danger, the falls still remain as one of the most popular tourist spots in the area.
The video has already garnered 1.9 Million Views and over 55 thousand reactions.
