Bullying is common and it can even be done through digital means. However, there are still those who choose to attack the old-fashioned way.
One example is a 16-year-old girl living in the United Kingdom. The victim, Emily O’Reilly, is a teenager with Asperger’s Syndrome, a type of high-functioning autism. She was on her way to a friend’s house when the attack occurred.
As she was walking down the street, a female thug suddenly pulled her and demanded that she hand over her iPhone. Emily refused and decided to hide her phone inside the pocket of the pants. The suspect then forcefully pulled down Emily’s pants in order to get the mobile device and her Pandora bracelet. The bully then proceeded to attack her by punching and kicking Emily until she became almost unconscious. The assailant only stopped when one of her friends thought Emily was already dead saying “Leave her now. I think she’s dead.”

In a statement, Emily said “I turned around and saw this girl I knew. She demanded my phone and punched me in the head. I stuck my phone down my trousers but she pulled down my jeans and grabbed my phone as well as my Pandora bracelet. The next thing I know I’m just lying on the floor and she is just stamping on my face and kicking me. I remember being punched a lot too.”
Luckily, Emily was able to stand up and go to a nearby pub to ask for help. She even saw the attacker, along with a few other people, looking for her after the incident. She recalled saying “I ran to a pub for help after I came back [a]round and even then, I could see her returning to the area with more people looking for me. This was after her friend thought I was dead. She was still coming back looking for me.”
She received medical attention for her fractured cheek, nose, and busted eye in a nearby hospital. Her injuries will leave her face permanently damaged.
Her mother, Tanya O’Reilly on the other hand, expressed her disappointment at seeing her daughter’s disfigured face. She said “It just didn’t look like my daughter. There was blood everywhere. I just burst into tears when I saw her, I could not believe somebody could do that to another person.”
“I want people to see these pictures to see the impact these attacks can have and the violence is just not the answer. She can’t even open her eye. She keeps crying but I can’t tell because I can’t see her tears through the swelling. She has been left permanently disfigured. As a mother, it breaks my heart to see her like this. You just don’t think it would happen to your own child,” she added.
Emily shared that she has become traumatized. “It has left me really scared. I’m in so much pain. I don’t even want to go out anymore,” she noted.

Truly, the long-term effects of this incident will leave Emily devastated for life. Bullying leaves not only physical damage but also emotional trauma.
