Exclusive - Mika dela Cruz Reveals Reason Behind Her Transferring to GMA: 'Sobrang hindi ako nagkamali ng desisyon!'

You might all remember fair-skinned Angelika dela Cruz, who was a contemporary of actors Judy Ann Santos, Gladys Reyes, Jericho Rosales, and Kristine Hermosa. She has a younger sister who goes by the name of Mika, an 18-year-old actress, model, and singer. 

Mika, unlike her older sister, was born in Tokyo, Japan to a Filipino father and an Italian-Australian mother. She followed Angelika’s footsteps and entered the showbiz industry by joining ABS-CBN in 2006.

Mika was known for portraying teenage characters, usually being paired with Nash Aguas, Andre Garcia, and Aaron Junatar. She has appeared in ‘Kambal sa Uma,’ ‘Eva Fonda,’ ‘Goin’ Bulilit,’ ‘Mirabella,’ and ‘You’re My Home’ before moving to GMA in November 2016.

She switched to another network after being a contract artist under Star Magic for nine years. It was reported by Philippine Entertainment Portal that Angelika was the one behind her younger sister’s decision to transfer. 

Mika admitted that everything fell into place when she went to GMA. “Actually, matagal na namang binabanggit ng sister ko na, ‘Try mo, kasi mababait sila, ganyan, aalagaan ka din nila.”

“E, siyempre nandito yung ate ko. Yung ate ko, lagi lang naman nag-a-advise sa akin yun kung ano magpapabuti sa akin, kung anong tingin niyang okay na itry ko.” 

“Inopen niya sa akin yung idea. Sabi ko, ‘Parang pwede nga, parang interested ako.’ “Nag usap-usap tapos parang gusto din naman nila ako. Actually sobrang bilis ng pangyayari, medyo natagalan lang sa pag-uusap, sa pag-aareglo...biglang may show na.”

She said that she made the right decision to transfer to the Kapuso network. When the press asked how she was doing right now with her career, Mika answered, “Grabe, sa lahat naman ng nagtatanong, isa lang ang sagot ko, sobrang happy ako.” 

“Sobrang hindi ako nagkamali ng desisyon. Grabe kasi mag-alaga ang GMA, managers ko, si Direk LA [Madridejos]. Feeling ko ang tagal ko nang andito, wala akong napi-feel na awkwardness, or parang nabago ako, wala.”
