President Rodrigo Duterte's birthday is fast approaching. He was born in Maasin Leyte on March 28, 1945. His 72nd birthday is a milestone because it will be his first birthday celebration as the President of our country.
During a press conference in Malacañang yesterday, a reporter asked the president what his birthday wish was.
President Duterte gave a lengthy answer, characteristic of his usual tirades, wherein he explained that he has everything he wants and there is nothing left to ask for. However, if he was ever given the privilege to ask God for something, it would be time.
The President asks God for more time so that he can finish what he started. He stated he needs more time to fix the government and govern the people.
His controversial war on the drugs has already been granted multiple extensions. The number of dead bodies amounts to almost 8,000 an alarmingly huge number. This amount has already surpassed the number of Martial Law victims.
Despite the rampant criticism his administration has received both locally and internationally, the President refuses to be swayed. He is convinced that the number one problem of the Philippines is drugs, and he is willing to go to any lengths to eradicate it.
Ironically, President Duterte himself has admitted to abusing Fentanyl, a synthetic painkiller that is 50-100 times more powerful than morphine.
The President also asked God to give the Filipino people the understanding to comprehend his methods.
His wish is a reasonable one, as the Filipino people are severely divided by his rhetoric.
With the numerous controversies and backlash surrounding his administration, it makes sense for the President to have asked for time and understanding.
