Life is a mystery. The idea of seeing something come alive is almost miraculous.
But little did this person know that him helping nature take its course would anger many netizens.
On March 18, Facebook page Monstah posted a video of a person assisting a baby lizard break out of the egg.
The clip started with showing the egg already leaking out with fluid. The person then gently squeezes parts of the egg to make bigger cracks on the shell.
By the end of the 40-second video, a little orange reptile comes out unharmed.
The video triggered an online debate with most commenters dwelling on the person's intervention in what is supposedly a natural process.
One netizen said, "I think the person should have left it alone to hatch naturally rather than forcing it to happen, animals hatch all the time on their own without the interference of a human. Just my opinion."
"You know if you help them hatch they die? Hatching helps them build strength to survive", said another.
While there are many tutorials available on the internet about how to assist in hatching poultry eggs, science has no clear rule about it.
It's a common practice on farms and in animal conservation centers especially for creatures that are on the list of endangered species.
But some people claim that helping a baby animal hatch is not advisable since it disrupts the natural selection process. Animals that hatch from eggs such as chickens take about 24 hours to hatch. Those who can't wiggle their way out within this time period are usually weak or have physical defects.
No one knows whether the baby lizard got to live a full life. But it sure is one cute fella.
