One of the general rules in life is to never judge a book by its cover. For example, what would you think if someone tells you that they are living in an old gas station?
At first thought, you might picture rusty old equipment and the smell of gasoline filling the air. All of that imagery might conjure up a sorry excuse for a compartment to live in.
But not for artist Robert Guthrie. When Robert mentioned his plans of living in an old gas station to his son, his son thought he was going nuts.
Thankfully, Robert has a creative and ingenious mind which allowed him to transform the deserted place into a comfortable and pleasing two-storey house. It still looks like your plain, old gasoline station outside but you'll be shocked once you see its interior.
It is located in the French Quarter in New Orleans and was built in 1918. Aside from being a gasoline station, it also was a furniture house and a jewelry factory. This beautiful home with a rich history makes it all the more special.
You'll surely be dazzled by Robert's idea of using scones, tires, headlights and emblems as decorations for his house.
