Exclusive - Under-Age Pinay OFW Mistreated By Employers. You Won't Believe What She Did!

OFWs around the globe continue to experience hardship and maltreatment from different employers.
Recently Kuwait Times reported that a Pinay OFW suffered several injuries after jumping from the 6th floor of her employers' apartment.
According to Rahima, her employers mistreated her and beat her on many occasions. The beatings grew more severe when they discovered that she stole KD110 from them. According to the victim she had accidentally burnt her employers’ pants and tried to hide the evidence in her room. Allegedly her employers found the burnt pants and money and subsequently instituted their normal regiment of cruel retribution. Aside from the alleged beatings she received, after the incident of theft, she was barred from leaving the home or taking any days off.
Upon investigation, she told the police that her records were fake, and she was actually a victim of a bogus recruitment agency. She claims her real name is Malaiha Omar and is only 17 years old. The alleged Cotabato native claims that in 2016 she worked with a local recruiter in the Philippines who procured her falsified documentation to gain employment in Kuwait.
The Philippine Consulate is doing its best to help the OFW, as per Part VIII, Rule II, Section 217 of the Revised POEA Rules and Regulations; Malaiha will repatriate to the Philippines when her medical condition is stable enough for travel.
Outraged, Dr. Celirino 'Chie' Umandap Chairman of the International NGO AKO-OFW said "How do you expect a young girl of her age to handle such a stressful situation?I blamed [sic] the local recruitment agency that hired such a teenage girl. It is Illegal" and In accordance with Part VI, Rule IV, Section 1. Paragraph A, of the POEA Rules and Regulations Governing the Recrutiment and Employment of Land-based Overseas Workers: the local recruitment Agency that hired her will most likely have their license cancelled. The employment agency will likely face further investigation and subsequent prosecution of additional violations.
Dr. Umandap continues, "Remember, even in Kuwait, the allowable age for domestic workers should be at least 24", It is unclear in his quote if he wishes the minimum age of migrant domestic workers in Kuwait to be raised to 24, since the minimum legal age defined by the Kuwaiti Law is 20 as of a law passed in July of 2015.
We can only hope that justice will be served for the perpetrators of this crime here in the Philippines and in Kuwait.
