It's a sad day for the anime industry as they lost a great guy who's responsible for some of the best series in his field like “Naruto”, “Bleach” and “Yu Yu Hakusho” (“Ghost Fighter”).
Kazunori Mizuno, aged 52, died last month according to reports from the Comic Book. His sudden death has been the center of talks between his friends and fans.
His death was discussed in a private manner but it spread when colleagues started paying tributes for him in social media pages, such as Twitter.
Mizuno's fellow animator, Kazuyoshi Yaginuma, disclosed details of his death on a tweet. He shared that Mizuno passed aways last March 19 when he took a break from work to have an hour-long nap but he unfortunately died in his sleep.
Overworking might be the cause of Mizuno's death, as suspected by his co-workers and fans. It is not an uncommon occurrence especially if you are in the anime industry. It is called “karoushi” in Japanese. Its medical cause includes stress-induced heart attacks and stroke.
What anime lovers don't know about the creators of their favorite shows is that the studios behind them are understaffed. This leads to excessive overtime just to meet their viewers' needs.
Fans might expect fewer works this coming season.
