The island may have a fascinating and captivating beauty but going there invites death. This Brazilian island is now dubbed as the world’s deadliest island.

This particular island is called Ilha de Quiemada Grande or also known as ‘The Snake Island’. Its name may give you a hint as to why it was called the deadliest island. 4,000 snakes inhabit this secluded place. According to the reports of The Daily Pedia, there is at least one snake per square meter. This means you can encounter a venomous viper every 3 feet.

Aside from the huge population of snakes living on the island, the Snake Island was also discovered to be the only place where golden lancehead viper live. This particular snake has very deadly and has a strong venom that could melt human flesh! According to the theory presented by The Daily Mail UK, the golden lancehead viper’s developed a fast-acting venom in order to prey on the migrating birds going to the island. As a result, their prey could instantly die from their venom.

Daily Mail UK also reported that the secluded island was actually a part of the Brazilian mainland. Because of the tides and waves, it got completely separated. Currently, tourists are banned from going to the island. The only people allowed there are few scientists and researchers who study the characteristics of the snakes inhabiting the place. Some members of the Brazilian Navy also visit the place to attend the Lighthouse that was built there in 1909. However, there are people who are illegally accessing the island for the capture of the golden lancehead viper which costs $30,000 in the black market.

The island was proven to be deadly as stories of gruesome deaths still perpetuate in Brazil. One story said that a fisherman lost his engine and decided to take some rest on the island. His dead body was then found swimming in a pool of blood full of snake bites. Another was that of the last family who attended the lighthouse and was attacked by hundreds of snakes. Snakes crawled in through their window and in an attempt to save themselves; they ran away from the house. However, there are more dangerous snakes that await them. Rumors are that their dead bodies were found scattered across the island.

Currently, the Brazilian government is really strict on their policy of banning tourists from the island.
