Exclusive - CONTROVERSIAL: Malaysian MP Says It's Okay For Rape Victims To Marry Their Rapists!

Rape victims go through various struggles before, during, and after sexual assault. They did not only suffer the physical pain of the act but the awful memory and trauma will haunt them forever.

Imagine having to relive it daily if they married their rapist.

A parliamentary debate that discussed a bill on sexual offenses against children was held in Malaysia on Tuesday, April 4.

Shabudin Yahaya, an MP (a Member of the Parliament), gave a shocking suggestion that soon became the talk of the town - and the world.

Yahaya said that rape victims can be permitted to marry their rapists to fix the dreary future ahead of them. According to him, the two are “given a second chance to turn a new page in life” through the sacred pact of marriage.

“Perhaps through marriage they can lead a healthier, better life. And the person who was raped does not necessarily have a bleak future. She will have a husband, at least, and this could serve as a remedy to growing social problems,” he stated.

He is also in favor of child marriages because of his belief that some are spiritually and physically ready for it.

Yahaya even cited that “some girls aged between twelve and fifteen have bodies like 18-year old ladies”.

Yahaya's controversial - some might say misogynistic and downright ignorant - statements earned him negative feedback worldwide.

He soon blamed the media for taking his words out of context.
