Exclusive - 16 Senators Voted Against De Lima as Chairperson of Committee on Justice


16 members of the Senate voted to oust the chairmanship and membership of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights to be vacant as per Senator Manny Pacquiao's motion last Monday, September 19.

The 16 senators who voted in favor of the vacancy of chairmanship and membership of the committee were Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, Senate Majority Floor Leader Vicente Sotto III, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, Sen. Panfilo Lacson, Sen. Cynthia Villar, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, Sen. Gregorio Honasan, Sen. Sonny Angara, Sen. Joel Villanueva, Sen. Richard Gordon, Sen. Nancy Binay, Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito, Sen. Manny Pacquiao, Sen. Loren Legarda and Sen. Grace Poe.

There are 4 senators who are against the motion and these were Senate President Pro-Tempore Franklin Drilon, Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Sen. Francis Pangilinan and Sen. Paolo Benigno Aquino IV

Senate Minority Floor Leader Ralph Recto and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV were abstain in the voting.

Senator Leila de Lima was the previous Chairwoman of the Committee who started the investigation on extrajudicial killings which introduced the public to self-proclaimed Davao Death Squad member Edgar Matobato.

It was allegedly said that de Lima paid Matobato to testify against Duterte.
