Exclusive - Duterte Asks Critics Of Death Penalty: 'What If There's No God?'

Along with President Rodrigo Duterte's vow to free the country of crime, corruption and drugs, Duterte have also opened up the possibilities of reinstating the death penalty in line with his bloody war against criminality.

In response to the argument of the majority of his critics on the issue of death penalty, Duterte questioned the existence of God saying, "What if there’s no God?"

"Ang mga tao sa Pilipinas hindi na naniniwala sa batas because fear is not there," he said.

"Every President along the way would just say ‘what if there is no God?’ I believe in God but that is my perpetual question to Him: Where were You when we needed You?" Duterte added.

He further emphasized that despite the country being among the biggest catholic countries in Asia, not everyone still believes in God noting the existence of atheists and agnostics.

The death penalty revival is the first bill filed in the Congress by Pantaleon Alvarez, the House Speaker seeking for the reinforcement of the capital punishment for heinous crimes.
