Last Monday, former President Fidel V. Ramos mentioned that he resigned as the envoy of the administration of President Duterte.
The news was confirmed last Monday after FVR gave his respects to the late Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the Royal Thai Embassy in Makati. He said that he gave his resignation after President Duterte went to China for a state visit.
“I’ve done my job to… break the ice and to help restore the ties of goodwill and friendship,” FVR said on his visit to Thai Embassy.
FVR accepted his post last July after PH gained its victory against China in the United Nations-backed arbitral tribunal in The Hague, which made China claims to the South China Sea invalid.
Early this month, Manila Bulletin released an article about FVR’s statement. FVR said that the government was “stuck in unending controversies about extra-judicial killings of drug suspects and in his ability at using cuss-words and insults instead of civilized language."
Ramos, who is a graduate of West Point, a Military Academy in the United Stated, criticized Duterte for declaring a foreign policy in which PH will be independent from U.S.
After winning this year’s election, Duterte gave credit to FVR after convincing him to run for office.
FVR said, "I still consider myself a part of the Duterte team whether they like it or not. But I am free to give friendly advice and that is part of our democratic culture.”
