President Rodrigo Duterte already made declarations that he will personally address the US Embassy protest incident which turned into a violent clash between the militants and the police force earlier this week.
President Duterte claimed that he will personally investigate both the police force and the young group of militants who are involved in the violent dispersal of US Embassy protest. He expressed his intentions of determining what really happened and how the demonstration become bloody.
“I would like to know what really happened. I will do the questioning myself”, Duterte said in a press conference held in Davao City after his state-visit in China.
The president also came up with an explanation for the policeman who ran over the mob of protesters. He said that although he is not justifying the act, he is open for any possible explanation to know why the police officer ran over the protesters.
““Nobody would ever do that in the midst of a troubled. I’m not justifying it. Maybe he was under stress. They might gang up on him, hurt him, and so he acted by instinct, self-preservations. Hindi naman ‘yan talagang may gusto siyang patayin. Padiretso-diretso lang eh (He didn’t want to kill anyone. He just drove forward and forward.)” the president explained.
Duterte also said that he will interrogate the police officer to hear his own explanation regarding the incident.
“I intend to look at it. I will try to talk to the police, invite him for coffee.” the president added.
On the other hand, Duterte also expressed his plans of talking to the young group of protesters to seek for their side of the story. The president said that he wanted to hear their clamor.
“I will talk to the activists. I would like to know what really happened. I will do the questioning myself. I do not want anybody hurt there, not the police, not the young militants” said Duterte.
Meanwhile, reports said that the incident caused the suspension of around 60 Manila police officers because of their violent response to the protesters. In addition, Duterte also mentioned that civility must remain in settling the issue.
