Authorities of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-Region 8) allegedly got the CCTV hard drive of the jail cell where former Albuera Mayor Ronald Espinosa was detained and killed on November 5.
According to the news as reported by GMA News, the former politician is hiding firearms and illegal drugs inside his cell. When the authorities entered his detention cell, Espinosa allegedly tried to fire his gun on the CIDG which made them shoot him.
Mayor Espinosa was linked to the illegal drug trade. He was supposed to receive his warrant of arrest at 4am. on Saturday when the incident happened.
Different investigations are on-going to know the truth behind this killing.
According to Sen. Panfilo Lacson, "Offhand, I can smell EJK and I base my conclusion on the circumstances that surround the killing."
Even Senator Richard Gordon commented in the said incident saying, "Espinosa's killing was a dagger in the heart of the criminal justice system as it appears that even those who are in the custody of the law are no longer safe."
¡°How can we encourage suspects to surrender under the law in this situation? It¡¯s a slap on the face of the rule of law and it signals a more desperate system ¨C a ¡®take no prisoners¡¯ approach. This creates an atmosphere of intimidation and fear and puts everybody in danger,¡± the senator added.
Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella, on the other hand, said that the palace will wait for further investigations before leaving comments.
