Exclusive - Grandson Of Arroyo And Two Others Caught In A Buy-Bust Operation In Bacolod

In a drug buy-bust operation conducted on Monday night in Bacolod city, three prominent personalities were caught and are now being detained in Precinct 9 in Bacolod after their arrest.

These personalities were identified as:
Manuel "Maui" Huelar Jr. (age 35), a former basketball star and Barangay Captain of village 35,
Christian Joseph Mijares (age 20), son of a known family in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, and
Joshua Robert Arroyo (age early 20’s), grandson of the late Ignacio Arroyo, former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo's brother.

According to PDEA Negros Island regional director Julius Navales, the buy-bust operation was conducted at an inn in Liroville Subdivision, Barangay Singcang at 7 pm on Monday, when an agent came to buy ‘shabu’ (methamphetamine hydrochloride) from Huelar.

The arrest happened as soon as Huelar handed the agent the pack of ‘shabu’.

Additionally, Huelar was also caught in possession of Php 1,000 worth of ‘shabu’, in addition to the Php 500 worth of drugs from the buy-bust operation.

According to reports, Arroyo attempted to stop a PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) agent from entering his room, forcing the agent to shoot him in the arm.

Two sachets of what seemed like ‘shabu’ and other drug paraphernalia were found in Arroyo’s room.

A regular-sized ‘shabu’ sachet, a pack of plastic sachets, a weighing scale, an improvised ‘tooter’, and disposable lighters were recovered from Mijares, who was found in the same room with Arroyo.

Huelar and Mijares denied the claims that they were involved in dealing illegal drugs. As for Arroyo, he has been unable to answer any questions, since he was brought to a hospital due to the gunshot injury.
