After just a week of repairs, a city in Fukuoka, Japan has reopened their streets which have collapsed into a giant sinkhole.
The efforts were praised in the social media, calling it "swift in action".
The gigantic sinkhole which is 30 meters wide and 15 meters deep surprised the busy business district last Tuesday by swallowing part of a five-lane street. The sinkhole was caused by a subway construction in the area, exposing the support columns of nearb buildings.
The workers fixed the problem continuously for a week by dumping a huge amounts of wet cement and sand into the hole and fixing electricity, gas, and water lines to prevent further accident.
The street reopened at 5 am Tuesday (2000 GMT Monday), Fukuoka Mayor Soichiro Takashima said in a statement, exactly a week after the ground began sinking.
"We're very sorry for causing great trouble," Takashima said.
Fortunately, there were no casualties recorded in Fukuoka, the biggest city on the southernmost main island of Kyushu.
Many on social media expressed amazement at the quick recovery.
"I'm surprised the road reopened in a week!," one Twitter user said.
"Impressive. That was fast," said another.
One commenter on Facebook even joked about the current slow process here in the Philippines.
"Kung sa Pilipinas yan...mag se-senate hearing muna kung sinkhole ba talaga yan o hindi." he said.
