Exclusive - What Happened On Both Sides of Padre Faura After The Supreme Court Announcement On Marcos Burial?

It was a lunch break and everyone was enjoying their chicken adobo in front of the Supreme Court. The police have put down their defenses while the media were waiting for the big news.

The Anti-Marcos side, which was stationed at the entrance of Padre Faura St. corner Taft Avenue, was under the scorching heat of the sun. Some of them were praying while some were still arguing why former president Ferdinand Marcos should not be buried in the Libingan ng Bayani.

Meanwhile, the Pro-Marcos side was still active on their turf in front of the Supreme Court going to Robinsons Manila: praying, shouting Marcos' name, and reliving all the glorious things which they claimed happened during his administration. These include infrastructure projects, the anti-communist campaign, you name it. Some even shouted that they support Bongbong Marcos-Duterte tandem today because they say that the Philippine society badly needs the said tandem.

The grounds of Padre Faura were shaken when one Marcos loyalist shouted: 9-5 ililibing siya! The scene in the Pro-Marcos rally suddenly became an on-the-spot party. Some of them started to cry with tears of joy which some began shouting "Marcos Pa Rin!"

From the vote of 9-5, the petition to bury former dictator Ferdinand Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani has finally been approved. Those who voted 'yes' are Associate Justices Arturo Brion, Presbitero Velasco Jr, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Mariano del Castillo, Jose Perez, Teresita de Castro, Jose Mendoza, and Estela Perlas-Bernabe.

The crowd had mixed ways of celebration. An elder shouted that God exists because he finally let the Marcos burial "heal the wound" of the country. Some even said the history has finally been corrected and Filipinos will finally know the glory of what Marcos really did for the country.

The crowd went crazy when Gov. Imee Marcos, daughter of the former president, joined them in their rally. She thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for finally doing them a favor which they have been requesting for quite some time now. "Finally, the wounds are being healed," she said in front of the media.

While noise is taking over the Pro-Marcos side, the Anti-Marcos group was eaten by silence. The leaders were murmuring. Martial Law victims were speechless, shaking their head. Marie Hilao-Enriquez, head of the Samahan ng Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (SELDA) went with Cong. Neri Colmenares in front of the Supreme Court gate to ask for more details.

Colmenares, a Martial Law victim himself, said the ruling is an injustice to all the dead Martial Law victims. He started a petition to null the SC decision.

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, together with Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, and Associate Justices Marvic Leonen, Francis Jardeleza, and Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa were the judges who said the burial should not take place.

After the announcement, student groups asked everyone to join them in their rally at UP Diliman at 5:30 PM. The Pro-Marcos were still celebrating as the students lament the defeat of their cause.
