Exclusive - BREAKING NEWS: DFA Spokesperson Confirms OFW Jakatia Pawa Was Executed in Kuwait Today!

During a press conference held today, January 25, 2017, Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Charles Jose confirmed that an overseas Filipino worker was executed in Kuwait.

According to Jose, 32-year-old OFW Jakatia Pawa underwent the legal process of proving her innocence. Unfortunately, she was unable to do so and was thus condemned. Her family could not pay the ‘blood money’ owed to the Kuwait government which would have prevented the execution.

Jose confirmed that the Philippine government had been in negotiating regarding the ‘blood money’ for the Pawa case since 2007.

Previously, President Rodrigo Duterte sent a letter of appeal to the Kuwait government seeking clemency on Pawa’s behalf.

Pawa was sentenced to death by the Court of the First Instance in Kuwait for supposedly killing her employer’s 22-year-old sleeping daughter on May 14, 2007. The victim was stabbed 28 times and died of her wounds. The OFW had been employed by the child’s family for five years prior to the incident. Pawa pleaded her case, saying it's quite possible that the suspect may have been one of the victim’s relatives. Supposedly, the daughter was involved in a love affair with a neighbor.

Pawa was executed today by hanging at 3:19 PM Manila time.

"We respect the decision of the justice system in Kuwait." Jose said in regards to the outcome of the ruling.
