3 years after winning the first ever edition of ABS-CBN's The Voice Kids, Lyca Gairanod opens up about the major changes in her life following her life-altering victory.
Lyca's family used to collect recyclable materials for extra income. Her father works as a fisherman in order to feed all of his 9 children. At an early age, Lyca has tried to help her family by singing for their neighbors in exchange for money. But everything changed when she was hailed as the inaugural grand champion for The Voice Kids.
In the presscon for the film 'Tatlong Movie' held on January 9, Lyca shared: “Siyempre po. Nagkaroon na rin po kami ng bahay, sasakyan.”
Since she is merely 12-years-old and below the legal limit, all the money she made from winning the Voice Kids is still in the bank until she reaches the legal age of 18.
She was able to travel around the world using her winnings. “Nakapunta na po ako sa Canada, Australia, Brunei, Singapore. Sa Singapore po, pabalik-balik po ako,"she shared.
She was also able to afford going back to her studies and is currently a grade 4 student in Eton School. She is currently enjoying some other changes brought about by her fame.
“Siyempre po, marami na po ang nagpapa-picture sa akin.Tapos, kapag nagpupunta po ako sa mall, marami na ang nagtitilian, humahabol po.Dati po kasi, naglalakad lang ako, wala namang humahabol sa akin. Tapos ngayon po, marami na po ang nagpapa-picture sa akin. Siyempre po, yung mga blessings po. Napakasaya ko po kasi yun po ang ibinigay ni Lord na blessing sa akin.” she shared.
When asked about how she feels when people commend her new look, Lyca told the press:
“Siyempre po, sobrang saya po. Masaya po ako. Face lang po ang nagbago, pero ang ugali ko, ganun pa rin po. Kung ano po ang ugali ko noon, yun pa rin po ang ugali ko ngayon."
“Alam niyo po ba, di ba po, yung iba hindi na binabalikan ang dating bahay kung saan nanggaling? Ako po, binabalik-balikan ko po. Tapos, pinupuntahan ko po." she added.
Due to the opportunities The Voice Kids has brought her, Lyca currently acts as the breadwinner of their family.
