There is an upcoming breakthrough in our country’s energy sector as we are set to welcome our country's first ocean power plant. The power plant will be built some along the San Bernardo Strait.
With the developments in science and technology, The Philippine National Oil Company - Renewables Corp and H&WB Asia Pacific, along with their foreign partner Sabella SAS, will set up the Philippines’ first ever ocean power plant. Once constructed, it is expected to provide more efficient and more affordable energy for the entire country.
Given that we are an archipelago surrounded by a large body of water, it is the perfect method to rectify our energy crisis.
“Tidal energy resource is considered more predictable and consistent than wave energy resource, and even wind for that matter,” H&WB said in a report by the Manila Times.
The contract was signed last October 2016 and the construction will start this 2017.
San Bernardo Strait is located between Sorsogon and Northern Samar.
