Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres shared an exclusive interview with ANC's "Headstart," the stories of the two most-publicized breakups she ever had-- one with Filipino actor Aga Muhlach and another with American singer Marc Anthony.
The former beauty queen was in a relationship with veteran actor Aga Muhlach during her showbiz stint in the Philippines. Torres decided to pursue a showbiz career in the country after she visited in 1994 for the Miss Universe competition in Manila.
She and Muhlach starred in the classic film "Basta't Kasama Kita."
Torres admitted that they had a painful breakup and she really did hurt a lot after.
"It wasn’t a terrible breakup, but I do remember being hurt and wanting to go, wanting to pack my stuff, but you know it was the way it was supposed to be," she said.
She also shared that from then on, they didn't keep in touch; saying that their "paths moved in different ways." However, she added that they had "great, great memories."
Muhlach is now married for 16 years to Charlene Gonzales, the Philippine bet for the 1994 Miss Universe pageant.
Meanwhile, Torres went back to Puerto Rico in 1998 to continue her singing career and released her only studio album, "Antifaz." After two years, she got married to Anthony. Sadly, they split up and got divorced in 2004.
The beauty queen then wrote a book entitled, "Married to Me: How Committing to Myself Led to Triumph After Divorce" with her sister. She said that although it's normal to be bitter after breakups, she handled the situation differently.
"To me, thankfully, the kids were there because I just had to focus on what they will see later on, what they will learn. I just wanted to be that kind of person that they can continue and admire. I didn’t want to be hateful, not me," she said.
After more than a decade since their divorce, Torres can confidently say that she's in "good terms" with his ex-husband because of their two kids.
