Exclusive - No Need to Go to Japan to See Cherry Blossoms. Palawan Has Its Own Cherry Blossom! Watch the Video Here!

You do not have to go to Japan to have a glimpse of the iconic Cherry Blossoms. Simply head out to the province of Palawan and see them.

The Cherry Blossom has become a tourist attraction in Japan. A report by the Japan National Tourism Organization revealed that more than 2 million tourists visited Japan in March 2016. 37,500 Filipinos visited Japan in the same month.

But Japan isn't the only country which has cherry blossoms. In fact, the whole month of March is "Cherry Blossoms" season in Palawan. Known locally as "balayong," Palawan Cherry belongs to the Casia Nodosa species which is native to the island of Java in Indonesia. This type of Cherry Blossom blooms only during the summer.

Balayong is endemic in Palawan. For this reason, Puerto Princesa Foundation's anniversary celebration was named after the flower, which has become a symbol of "beauty and love." For this year, students and residents took part in the civic grand parade by wearing "balayong" inspired costumes. Bikers also took part in a Mountain Downhill Challenge by riding downhill on a rocky and steep terrain. Local beauties were also featured in the Ms. Puerto Princesa pageant

With the celebration, Palawenos are hoping that visitors would also become interested in their local products.
