Breastfeeding is essential for babies’ development outside of the womb. Breast milk is the best source of nutrients and antibodies that help protect an infant against different kinds of illnesses.

However, most mothers couldn’t breastfeed their child whenever they please, especially in a public place.

Many Filiipinos still believe it is improper for a woman to expose herself in public. Even if it is for the sake of the hungry child, women are advised to go somewhere private just to feed their baby.

A husband went viral recently for defending his breastfeeding wife from a netizen who thinks the act shouldn’t be done in public. 

Reijo del Prado uploaded a photo of his wife while breastfeeding their newborn baby in a restaurant. He captioned it saying:

“Ok. Let me get this straight. 

Its a picture of my wife nursing my little one in public. 

Some will say "teka dapat may cover!", others will say "dapat dun sa banyo!" At yung iba "wala ba lugar dito para magpadede?!"

I'll give you 3 questions to ponder.

A. Can you eat comfortably while being covered in the face all the time?

B. Can you imagine yourself eating in a public toilet?

C.Kung gutom na gutom ka na, at di ka makakain, ano pakiramdam mo?

Anyways, im just proud to see how my wife takes care of my little one..

When netizen Nerissa Velasco saw the photo, she immediately responded by saying “Habang Kumakain Ka Sa Resto May Nagpapa Dede!! Tama Ba Ganitong Asal in Public Place?”

The issue received mixed responses from netizens, some saying that it’s fine to breastfeed in public while others saying that a breastfeeding mom should find a more private place.

Tina Caratao Cenizal angrily said “Ano ba masama sa pagpapa dede in public ?? Alangan naman titisin mo sa gutom ang sanggol or anak mo ?? Siguro sa masyadong mga malisyoso maiilang sila.. Fyi lang po wala pong batas na nagsasabi or nasasaad na bawala magpa dede in public ?? Bakit di nyo sitahin nyong mga naninigarily kahit saan ?? Minsan nasa bus nasa kalsada !!? Ung maamoy at malalanghap mo ang usok nila nakaka cancer at nakaka pwerwisyo??? Mag isip isip muna kayo ,. At tumabi ung mga malilisyosong isipan nyo .!! Walang masama sa ginagawa ng INA para sa ikabubuti ng anak !!!!”

Meanwhile, Mac Mac Vera Catugas commented “ganito po kasi yan mga sir/maam o.k lang po yan pero kung medyo nakakahatak na sya ng attention lalo na sa ibang tao at lalake at napaka ganda pa ni maam eh medyo tago tago din ikaw ba gusto mo ba na pagtinginan ka ng madaming tao habang kumakain??? halimbawa sa mang inasal eh pareparehas naman kayo ng order pero ikaw nakaka agaw ka ng attention at pinag titinginan ka...”
