Off duty, Police Officer 2 Joselito Lantano of PNP Security and Protection Group saved a bus-load of passengers, including himself, from a hold up robbery.
As the Diamond Star Bus passed by Q Mart in Kamuning, an armed man suddenly fired a shot and declared robbery. Coincidentally, on his way home and in his civilian attire, the police officer acted upon the situation and stopped the robbery in progress.
Lantano said, “Tumingin ako sa likod tapos nakita ko siya nakatutok na yung baril niya sakin, babaril na kaya inunahan ko na”.

After shooting the perpetrator, he checked the bus for accomplices and controlled the situation. Parked under a flyover near EDSA and Quezon Avenue, the bus was assisted by officers patrolling in the area in which they arrested two men identified as Mark Lee Mahinay and James Medrano.
Caught with a firearm and a bladed weapon, they denied their involvement with the operation. Afterwards, the two were brought to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) headquarters in Camp Caringal.
Netizens applauded the police officer for going beyond the call of duty and called him a “Cardo Dalisay in real life”.
“Mabuhay ka PO2 Lantano. Congratulations for a job well done! Kaya kayong mga nang hoholdap ng bus/jeepney ingat nkau ngaun dahil malamang may mga pasaherong pulis ang hoholdapen ninyong sasakyan...todas kayo!”

Of course, there are netizens who are not that happy with how the situation was handled and are thinking of how the Commission of Human Rights (CHR) is going to react.
Naku! Makakasuhan ka niyan. Bakit mo pinatay ung holdaper. Dapat binigyan mo pa ng chance na mabuhay ng maayos. Hahabulin ka ng CHR at CBCP nyan..
